About

Our friend Les once mentioned his goal of writing and recording an entire record by himself in one week. We decided to outdo Les by writing and recording an entire record in one night. Two years and three records later, what initially began simply as an attempt to spend time making music with our friend Conrad turned into this, the One Night Record Project.

Our first installment, Spaceling, has a Science Fiction theme and well exceeded all our expectations by the end of the night. It has probably been our most successful One Night Record. Hard copies of Spaceling have been ordered and sent from our house to destinations all over the country as well as downloaded countless times over the internet from various websites. Elizabeth of the Impossible Midnight has even been performed at an elementary school in a Parent/Teacher talent show.

Los Nightmares is the second attempt to produce a record in a single evening. The concept for this one is obviously Horror, and the song titles and lyrics speak for themselves. Babies are eaten at more than one place on this record. Katharine and Will explore the intricacies of what two monsters in love might do to an unwary farmstead in Castle on the Hill. Leslie actually passed out cold in front of the mic around 4 or 5 in the morning after voicing her lyrics in her story of a woman hunted in I'm History. She did go home afterwards to get some sleep.

The third record, Automove, is all about travel and how different people do it - or want to do it as in Nick's suavo R&B rocker The Love Train. Automove was recorded last and at least a year from Spaceling so our studio had changed quite a bit. You can actually hear the studio upgrades as the second two records progress away from the greater low fidelity of Spaceling.

What can be inferred so far from this letter and the One Night Record Project Trilogy itself is that it's the product of several people's imaginations and tastes blending together with no time for second takes or inhibitions. Miraculously this process worked not only well but superbly. At least we're all willing to release it to the public with our names on it:
